Intro to the 5Elements Flow series and the rejuvenating quality of Water Flow

5Elements Flow is a dynamic vinyasa flow practice within the Kunga Yoga methodology developed by Kristin Cooper and inspired by the teachings of Ayurveda. 5Elements Water Flow is a rejuvenating practice incorporating fluid vinyasa and circular wave motion throughout the the body within a softly flowing sequence. This is a nourishing practice meant to balance the effects of stress, depletion, and over-stimulation from life or from strong heated agni-based practices. The circular movements of 5Elements Water Flow lubricate all the joints in the body, and support increased spinal mobility, range of motion, and balance. 5Elements Water Flow is a full body vinyasa practice with an emphasis on shoulder opening, fluid backbends, and the six movements of the spine. Working to move the body as liquid matter, we release old patterns of stress and tightness. All levels are welcome, and this practice ends with a lengthy relaxation.

Benefits of this program/presenter’s approach:

Practitioner will enjoy the benefits of a full-body NON HEATED flow practice

Teaches practicioner how to use the teachings of Ayurveda to create more balance (Sattva) in their lives

Teaches practitioners how to benefit mentally and physically from a less vigorous practice

Increases mobility for shoulders, spine, hamstrings, and quadriceps-excellent after sitting at a desk or general inactivity

IPsychosomatics: Generally has a calming, grounding effect on the mind and increases self-compassion through giving permission to do less and achieve less

Learn a hands approach to moving the energy flow along the meridians of the body.

* 500 Hour Elective Training

Shiatsu is a form of Japanese bodywork which literally translates as “finger pressure”. Students use palms, thumbs, and feet to affect the meridians that flow through the body. Meridians are living electromagnetic pathways of energy that govern all things physical, physiological, mental and emotional. Shiatsu helps to free blocks in the body so that Ki (energy) flows more affectively along the meridians. The body is then better able to cleanse and heal on many levels. The Five Element Theory will be presented; Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood and how each meridian is stimulated or calmed by these elements is discussed.

Benefits of this program/presenter’s approach:

Learn why you use which meridian for what illness or injury

Learn specific yoga moves for each of the meridians, improving your own body mechanics and thus client positioning

Learn about the five element theory, broadening your mind and your ability to assist clients in their healing process

Learn about CAM, complimentary alternative medicine and how Shiatsu fits into this category

Assist your clients to heal on a deeper level, helping them to find root causes, as well as relieving symptoms

About Heather Metzler, RYT

As a Special Education teacher for many years, Heather started looking for a way to alleviate stress and create a healthier lifestyle for herself. She took her first yoga class 13 years ago at a local gym, and was soon in love with the way it made her feel. She found the Wilmington Yoga Center where she started to deepen her practice through the love and teachings of Kristin, Larry and Donna. After the birth of her first daughter in 2006 she took the Prenatal Teacher Training offered at WYC, followed shortly after with the Kunga Vinyasa Teacher Training. In 2009 during her second pregnancy, she completed the 220 hour Kunga Yoga Teacher Training. She feels blessed to have her family and students in her life everyday, supporting her growth as an individual and as a teacher. She is currently working towards her 500 hour certification, to deepen her practice and experiences while serving others in her classes.
