Our yoga and service retreat will combine spending our mornings practicing yoga at our beautiful hotel terrace, our afternoons at the Home of Hope orphanage and exploring the magical tropical region of Kerala, on the south coast of India! This yoga retreat is open to ALL ages ALL levels and children 5yrs and up!

About Kerala, India:

Kerala is a State in the India Union located on the south west coast of the Indian peninsula. We will be staying in the city of Cochin, a seaside city on the Arabian Sea with tall swaying palm trees and idyllic backwaters. Cochin is a modern city with every modern amenity and is draped in a rich history.

The Girls of Home of Hope:

The orphanage is home to 70 girls, ages 5 to 23, who have seen the worst life has to offer. Many have been beggars on the street and have been physically, spiritually and sexually abused. They are now in a safe place at Home of Hope, and they are very anxious to learn and be with any visitor that is willing to come and spend time with them. For more information on the amazing work that Home of Hope does, please visit their website: www.homeofhopeindia.org

The Intention of this Kunga Journey:

Raise funds for the orphanage – 20% of the profits from your trip will go to the orphanage

Create a unique group “Kunga” yoga experience – combining yoga and service work at a very well established orphanage

Living yoga through serving – invite other yoga studios, teachers and students to join us in our mission and get our hands dirty!

What the retreat includes:

Accomodations

Daily morning 2-3 hour yoga and meditation classes

Airport transfer to hotel

Group excursion

Daily afternoon activities at Home of Hope, conversing in English with the girls and overall afternoon fun!

More retreat inclusive details to come!

About Deon De Wet, NCBTMB, RYT

Deon first discovered “Nuad Boran”, Traditional Thai Massage, while traveling in Thailand on vacation in the year 2000. It brought forth sensations of emotional and spiritual well-being, similar to those related to periods of deep meditation. He also experienced a profound sense of Bliss and connection to his body, previously only felt after vigorous exercise. On his return to the USA, he began a period of intensive and ongoing training with Saul David Raye, who had spent years learning the system while living in a Hill Tribe Village in Northern Thailand. Saul was personally certified to teach this ancient healing art by the late, legendary Asokananda, one of the world’s foremost experts in Traditional Thai Massage. After completing several training courses, retreats and evaluation of hundreds of hours of work, Deon was certified as an Advanced Thai Yoga Therapy Practitioner. Deon also became a Certified Massage Therapist, after receiving thorough training in Swedish and Circulatory Massage at IPSB, the Institute for Psycho-Structural Balancing in Culver City, California. He has been practicing Yoga for many years and obtained his Teacher Training Certificate in the Anusara style of Hatha Yoga. Deon still returns to Thailand periodically, where he spends time in Chiang Mai, studying with and experiencing treatment sessions from master Thai Massage practitioners and teachers such as Pichest Boonthumme, one of Asokananda’s early teachers.

About Marlysa Sullivan, MPT, ERYT

Since becoming a physical therapist, I have sought a deeper understanding of the body and of the healing process. This search brought me to yoga as a way to understand the intricate link between body, mind, energy and spirit. After searching many different yoga traditions, I found Pranakriya Yoga and became a director in this tradition. This school allows me to combine my knowledge of the neuromusculoskeletal system with the philosophy and practice of yoga. By delving into yoga philosophy, as well as experiencing these deep practices, I have begun to understand what it means to feel fully alive in this world as well as becoming a more balanced individual. My courses are led in an experiential, hands-on method of teaching. Through the art of touch and the integration of this knowledge into Asana. Pranayama, and Meditation practice, I hope to make the study of anatomy and physiology real and accessible to my students. I am adjunct faculty at Georgia State University in the Physical Therapy Department where I assist in several courses as well as teach the application of yoga into physical therapy practice. I practice physical therapy, yoga therapy and teach yoga classes in Atlanta.

My physical therapy practice has focused on manual therapy techniques such as muscle energy, strain counterstrain and craniosacral therapy. I am a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapy and am currently developing a yoga therapy curriculum for the Pranakriya school with Yoganand Michael Carroll. Learn more about Marlysa by visiting: anatomyofyoga.com

About Donna Gardner and Carrie Williams, RYT

She holds a Masters Degree in Dance from New York University, and is an ACE certified personal trainer. In addition, she attended the Graduate School of Social Work at Boston University and recently completed Level I certification in Thai Yoga Bodywork. Whether you are new to practice, returning to it, or enjoying an ongoing practice, please join Donna for classes in which you will receive personal attention to your specific needs and abilities.

CARRIE WILLIAMS, ERYT is a yoga teacher and clinical social worker, she has dedicated her work to healing, and for her yoga is a powerful means of healing body/mind/spirit. Whether practicing on her own mat or teaching, she loves the creativity of Vinyasa yoga alongside the quiet intensity of Yin. Some days a strength-building, detoxifying practice is in order, while other times a practice of softly flowing movement or long-held stretches is needed. She is also interested in Yoga as Therapy, and am honored to offer Mind/Body Therapeutics as well as Thai Yoga Therapy. She is currently completing 500-hour advanced training with Kristin Cooper-Gulak through the Wilmington Yoga Center to advance her studies and continue to share even more. “It seems that the more I learn and deepen my own practice, the more I have to offer others. My love for practicing and teaching yoga has grown to presenting workshops and teacher training modules on topics that are especially of interest to me, such as Ayurveda and Yoga, Thai Yoga Therapy for Couples, and gravity-defying arm balances. I am grateful to many amazing teachers for sharing their many amazing gifts so that I can continue to share with others. It is with gratitude that I dedicate my teaching to meeting the individual body, mind, and spirit needs of the students and clients I serve.”
