Every day in life, we all have many needs that must be met. Food serves to meet our need for nourishment. A lock on the door, or an airbag in the car, may meet our need for safety. Going to work every day serves our need for financial support and stability. Yet in our society, “needs” are often equated with “being needy.” We are taught and perhaps even conditioned to quell our needs. We often feel overwhelmed and irritated when asked to put others’ needs before our own, and stifled when we bite our tongues against communicating our needs to others. Our unfulfilled needs then turn into unfulfilled feelings; feelings of negativity, pent up frustration, and perhaps even anger and resentment.
If you are reading this description and thinking, “yes, I know these feelings,” then you may be relieved to learn that we all know these feelings. Better yet, there is a constructive way to explore these feelings, and transform them into a positive experience.
The Communication, Connection, and Compassion Training workshop with Elizabeth Banner offers a peaceful, mindful methodology of thinking and speaking, which allows you to communicate your needs to others, while understanding others’ needs, without judgement, and without fear of hearing the word “no.”
What is Communication, Connection, and Compassion Training?
This workshop, which will be taught by the intuitive, caring, and highly experienced Elizabeth Banner, is based on the principles of Marshall Rosenberg and Non-Violent Communication (NVC). NVC is a peaceful method of verbal and non-verbal communication, which can help all people to foster positive relationships with their family, friends, coworkers, and community members.
What will I learn in this workshop?
You will learn how to:
-
Express yourself honestly and listen empathetically.
-
Support your own values while equally honoring the needs of others.
-
Translate judgmental thoughts (yours and others’) into underlying feelings and needs.
-
Enhance your relationships with a deeper sense of aliveness and appreciation.
How will non-violent communication affect me?
Learning and employing non-violent communication skills in your life can make you feel lightened and liberated in many ways. It will allow you to communicate your own needs more clearly with friends, coworkers, and family members, fostering relationships of trust. It will also allow you to communicate with others freely, without fear of being judged, or fear of offending others. It will empower you and allow you to realize that we cannot always meet the needs of others, and this should not leave us feeling guilty. It will teach you to to help others realize their own needs, and help them to discover how they can best meet them on their own.
What is the format of the workshop?
Over the course of the three day workshop, you will be involved in self-reflection, group activities, and partner exercises. It is a highly interactive and engaging format. You will have the opportunity to work with Elizabeth personally, and to explore real-life communication scenarios.
