“I highly recommend Wilmington Yoga Center’s Empowered Vinyasa program to anyone interested in becoming an instructor or deepening their practice. I had been practicing yoga for 11 years when I decided to pursue my certification, and I’m so glad I chose WYC to guide me on my journey. Jess and Heather have created a comprehensive, informative, enriching program that covers everything from anatomy, to sequencing, to adapting classes for specific populations (e.g., seniors and individuals with trauma). All of the instructors are knowledgeable, helpful, and professional, and I learned so much from them. The program provides lots of hands-on experience and imbued me with the confidence to guide students through their practice. In fact, I am so impressed that I have already begun my 300 hour training with WYC. With so many programs to choose from, it can be challenging to find one that delivers on its promises. Rest assured, WYC does just that—and then some!” – 2024 Graduate
“The instructors are encouraging and patient, the environment is a safe space. This is a great program for anyone who is starting. Thank you for everything!” – 2022 Graduate
“I learned so much about yoga and myself. Amazing people, always willing to help and genuinely care about students and the studio.” – 2022 Graduate
“The training was comprehensive and carefully planned. I feel prepared to teach. I am so glad I did this!” – 2024 Graduate
“I’ve been around yoga for 25 years, I learned more in 2 weeks than 25 years!” – 2024 Graduate
“It is a lot of work, but I left feeling so much more confident in yoga and teaching.” – 2024 Graduate
Heather has led many retreats over the years-including both service work and relaxation retreats. Through Kunga Journeys she has led two retreats to the Homes of Hope Orphanage in Kerala, India. She has led many retreats through WYC including Costa Rica, BHI, Prama Institute, Dominican Republic, and Scotland. She has developed and led local mini and weekend retreats in and around Wilmington.
Heather teaches on the public class schedule regularly, and leads/co-leads the Empowered Vinyasa 200 hour teacher training, as well as the newly minted WYC 300 hour program. She feels blessed to have her husband and two daughters that support her growth and passions. Heather is grateful for her students and the amazing teachers who enrich her life daily.
Studio Co-Owner, Jessica Bichler has a rich yogic history, steeped in a variety of trainings and lineages, bringing a wealth of knowledge to her classes, workshops and teacher trainings. Jess came to yoga in her teens, recognizing it as a path towards staying active and healthy throughout every stage of life and began teaching in 2001. Jess has had the opportunity to study myriad yoga styles, particularly the prominent lines of Iyengar, Ashtanga and Anusara – each complimenting her attention to alignment and core engagement gained as a gymnast – as well as therapeutic and kids yoga. Her formal education and certifications were earned at the Morningside School of Yoga in upstate New York, Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Massachusetts, and most recently 200 and 500 hour certifications from the Wilmington Yoga Center. Jess holds a MA in Visual and Cultural Anthropology. Her influential teachers include Michael Smith, Stacey Millner-Collins, Cheryl Crawford, Kristin Cooper and Noelle Cavenaugh. Jessica loves developing a wide variety of classes including everything from gentle and chair yoga, to kids yoga, to advanced practices focusing on arm balances and inversions. Her goal is to lovingly support students down the path of living a yogic lifestyle in all aspects.
Jenn first set foot on a yoga mat in 2010 and has hardly stepped away since! She was practicing massage therapy at a local spa and yoga studio, and tried her first class there. She was offered a place in a 200 hour teacher training program in 2011 and jumped right in! She loved learning about the history and philosophy of yoga and the different ways to integrate it into her life and the lives of her students. After teaching for about a year, she took a hiatus to raise her 2 children. In 2019, she decided it was time for a comeback and took the Mindfulness and the Eightfold Path 200 hour training with Frances Murchison and Jamie Annette. It was such a life changing experience; she couldn’t wait to share all she learned with everyone! She was offered an intern position at Wilmington Yoga Center and started training in the 300 hour Kunga Service Leadership program. The internship allowed her access to teaching public classes straight from training, along with a mentorship under Jessica Bichler. In 2022, Jenn graduated from her 300 hour training and internship and is now a registered ERYT 500 instructor. Her classes are energetic and playful; incorporating music, breath and movement to create a space that is truly welcoming for all.
We have an array of classes, workshops, and teacher training options — led by the most celebrated and loved yoga teachers in Wilmington, NC.
